Jelly Time

Jellyfish are soft-bodied, free swimming aquatic animals with a gelatinous umbrella shaped bell, and long tentacles. Jellies have floated along the ocean currents for 500 million years, making them the world's oldest multi-organ animal.
The creature is an invertebrate made mostly of water, and has no heart, brain or bones.

Tiny stinging cells in the tentacles stun their prey and provide an easy way to catch dinner which can be fish, shrimp, crab, or even tiny plants. They move by squirting water from their mouth.
The jellies at the Planet Jellies exhibit at the Aquarium are translucent and are enhanced by the changing coloured lights.... a fascinating ballet of delicate movement.

  1. The marine world is incredibly beautiful. Sometimes dangerous, but very, very beautiful.

  2. I don't like these things. Sometimes our waters are full of them and they do sting! But your photos are beautiful!

  3. Stunning shots! I used to watch these things on the south coast of England when I were a lad (OK, maybe not as colourful as the ones you show!). They have always made me somewhat uneasy; rather like certain breeds of shopping-mall-dwellers, there is no reasoning with them.

Popped over to Virtual Paintout and saw your submission. Great job, working with collage gives another dimension, keep up the good work 🙂👍🎨

  5. It’s relaxing for me to watch jelly fish floating at aquarium, but of course no-no to encounter at the sea. Thanks for the comment. -12 degrees at this time of year is outrageous. Probably no visible sight of spring, but remember lives are waiting patiently to emerge buried in the snow. Stay warm and take care.

  10. Lovely to view in your photos, in aquarium, but none to pleasant when 2 yr old dtr was stung by one in Hawaii -- had floated in clinging to seaweed which she encountered.

  11. I've wasted SO much time watching jellies "bloop" by me during a dive. SO beautiful. Favourite is the comb jelly (which isn't a true jelly) as the colours are so lovely

Thank you for remembering of the anniversary of the Tsunami in Japan.
I think many victims are happy when they know that people in other countries still remember the victims.

    Have a wonderful weekend,Shamic.
